Barbie Girl

or: When a childhood favourite has an Instagram account

I like a bit of silliness and one spot I find it is in one of my favourite accounts on Instagram.

This account is a perfect blend of one of my favourite childhood toys with a bit of an adult twist.

It is a toy come to life and living her best life, documenting it online for all to see.

Her favourite colour, and one she considers a neutral, is pink.

Her pet dog is named Honey and she regularly visits New York to collaborate with designers there and attend shows – fashion, musicals and theatre – visits galleries and sees the sights.

She catches up with her girl crew, does yoga sometimes alone and sometimes with others, has facials and just chills on her couch.

Sometimes the guys she posts photos of have man-buns or are in the kitchen – that’s not something from my childhood!

Sometimes she posts her outfit of the day and asks for recommendations about what she should wear. A style icon asking for recommendations. Wow!

The photos are usually funny enough but her captions are what really makes it for me.

Every time I look at this account, I smile.

In an online world full of trolls, this account doesn’t seem to attract any or her admin team is absolutely awesome. All the posts are positive.

I share some of her posts with friends when I find myself laughing or when what she’s done that day reminds me of something with them.

I’m all for sharing the joy.

I have no need to worry that they think I’m crazy for following this account or that I truly enjoy it.

If you can be who you truly are with your friends, then you know you have found a great crew too.

Thanks Barbie (and the Barbiestyle account) and to all my friends who are simply entertained when I send this sort of thing and take it in the spirit its intended!

Thanks to Aqua for the title to this post. What other title could I possibly have chosen?!
