Tread Water

Hi, I’m Tex.

Mrs Shallot’s employment search continues so the Shallot household has been able to take me in for the day and evening. They decided to name me Tex.

They have left me alone with the computer so I’d better make this quick – if they see that I can type, Mrs Shallot may never work and I would rather spend time being a puppy than typing!

I’m about two months old and I think I’m a Ridgeback / HK Special Cross (Dad didn’t stick around and I’m not sure where Mum has gone so I don’t know for sure what I am crossed with).

Everyone says I’m cute and you can see from the picture that it’s true (I’m also quite modest). I was found by PALS (Protection of Animals Lantau South). They were bringing 24 of my closest friends and relatives back with me to Discovery Bay and Pui O for adoption. Some of them have already found permanent homes from hanging around Discovery Bay Plaza with the PALS people but I’ve kept a low profile and haven’t been to the Plaza yet. Instead, I’m staying here for the night and then going to a school tomorrow with one of my other friends. From there, I’ll find a new home.

I know the Shallots have resisted keeping me even though I behave and look a lot like what their dog did when she was younger. She’s a great dog and I would love to have her as a big sister. She’s been great to me and very friendly. She likes to play too and is letting me play with some of her toys.

I’m so comfortable here that I’ve even rolled on my back to have my belly scratched. I was very scared when I first arrived and was shaking in my skin. It’s just because I’ve been passed around so much that I don’t know where I belong or who to trust. That and I haven’t had much food so I get cold very easily too.

I’m also quite smart and have been sitting for food and also to go outside. I do have some trouble going to the toilet though. I know boys are meant to cock their legs and I’ve got that bit right but I keep going to the toilet forwards and I think that’s the wrong part. I’m going to have to watch the boys down at the park closely so I can get this right. It’s a bit embarrassing.

I can hear Mrs Shallot getting out of the shower so I’d better go before she finds me typing! Wish me luck in finding a good new permanent home!
Pawfully yours,
Tex

NB – Tex slept straight through the night with only a little bit of whimpering. Truly a dream puppy! Difficult giving him back, he’d started shaking again. I expect that he will find a home quite quickly though. I just wish that I’d caught him typing – my job search would be over for sure! Shallot

Thanks to De La Soul for lending Tex and I the title to this post. Good song for staying positive!
