Tentative Decisions

or: When no decision is a decision

I have never gone through my shoes to decide which ones to keep and which to donate. This is because I tend to wear my shoes until they fall apart, I buy them as I need them (including if I have a new outfit and none of my current shoes will match) and I have enough space for all my shoes.

I am also not a shoe person.

I will freely admit that I am a handbag person. That said, I have managed to give a few bags away lately.

Anyway, back to the shoes.

I decided that given I am now more regularly out of an office than in one, I have no need for quite as many pairs of heels. Since I only have two suits now, I only need shoes that go with those plus my recreational clothes.

My recreational clothes range from super casual through to fairly formal so my shoes should reflect this too.

Where possible, shoes should also go with a few outfits otherwise I should question both my shoe choice and my outfit keeping decision-making. They should definitely be comfortable – there was to be no compromising on this one in particular!

And so the exercise began.

Most were fairly easy to decide until Ipulled out two pairs in particular. Different shades of brown. One has a heel and the other are wedges. They both match similar outfits and can be worn to dress something up or down. So I did what anyone else would do in this moment of indecision, I asked my Facebook friends.

Very valid points were made most strongly in favour of the wedges. These included that they wouldn’t get caught in decking (very good point since I do spend a lot of my time on various decks) and that this particular pair looks more worn than the other so I could get money for the heels on ebay.

Then a few people added to my confusion by suggesting I keep both.

This had me thinking since I don’t actually need to get rid of either pair. I’m doing this to reduce some excess in my life.

With that in mind, I’ve decided to keep both pairs for now and will see which ones I wear least over the next few months (it’s still summer here so I should be able to see if I’m favouring one over the other, and then revisit it.

Mission (temporarily) accomplished.
