For the Longest Time

or: All good things come to those who wait and complete the necessary paperwork

My things are almost in Mauritius!

<<Insert happy dance here>>

I have my resident’s permit, I’ve visited customs to sort out their paperwork and the next step is for my things to arrive by boat in the capital city.

In each step of this process there has been some unusual bureaucracy with paperwork that makes little sense as to why they require it and often it’s not even on their website or their agency doesn’t even know they will ask for it. I have taken to carrying all official looking documents with me to every government meeting just in case they ask for something unexpected.

It has saved me a trip back home on at least one occasion.

Anyway, it’s all nearly here…

Like Sydney and Hong Kong, Port Louis (as if you couldn’t tell by the name) is a port. I live about 45 minutes north of here (depending on traffic which can be like returning from the Central Coast to Sydney after a long weekend).

If it all goes through the customs scan smoothly, I will then see it arrive where I’m living a day or two later.

If the scan picks up something odd (I can’t imagine what since I was very careful to have no alcohol or anything else they could possibly charge me duties on in my shipment), I will be called in so they can open the shipping container.

I’m very excited to soon have, of all things, my favourite coffee cup in my hands again.

Also to have a wider selection of clothes to choose from as I like a change every now and then.

When I packed all my things in October, I was expecting to have everything back by the end of November so I didn’t allow for a lot of variety.

While that may work for Steve Jobs and the like, my wardrobe had already been reduced so reducing it further wasn’t going to have any further benefit on reducing my daily decision fatigue.

I am ready to have a wardrobe choice again.

After a fresh cup of coffee in my favourite cup!
