or: I guess that was the rehearsal
I’d chosen the location. I’d written a loose outline of what I wanted to say. I had the necessary equipment.
It was time.
I made my way to the selected venue. I set everything up.
I did a sound check.
Testing. One, two, one, two, two, two.
It sounded fine.
What didn’t sound fine was the wind.
Or the drill.
Or the motorbike.
Then there was a conversation with a toddler in an area near to me that previously had no-one there.
I decided to use it all as a test anyway and see how I went.
Background noise aside, it did not go well.
In spite of talking about something I know quite a bit about, I was lost for words. Not often that happens so I took some time to think a bit more about what I wanted to say and tried again. Still talked all over the place and while it made sense, I put it through the “would I watch it myself” filter and it was stuck in the funnel.
I ended up shooting the video in smaller segments and doing a piece at a time so I could fine tune it later.
It’s still not so good because of the background noise.
It means that this week I will be shooting again from another venue.
It also means I will have more of a prepared script rather than just an outline.
And I’ll narrow down the focus of the video as I think part of the challenge was I was using some terms that I wouldn’t normally use and it would be better if I just did this more naturally (with a script, so there’s a bit of a contradiction!).
Great that I learnt quite a lot from this exercise already though a bit of a shame that I haven’t been able to release anything yet.
But now…
ACTION!
TAKE 954…
