Promised You (Another) Miracle

or: How to finish shampoo and conditioner at the same time

I posted on Facebook awhile ago about having just achieved the miracle of finishing my shampoo and conditioner at the same time. It gathered quite a few comments and some discussion as I’m not alone in this being a rare occurrence.

The question on everyone’s lips since then is “can she do it again? Is it possible to simultaneously finish both the shampoo and conditioner? If so, how?”

Ok, that’s technically three questions, and probably not everyone is asking, however I’m going to answer these questions anyway.

Background

Long-term readers may remember that I have a preference for shampoo and conditioning bars however I have struggled to find reasonably priced versions in Mauritius. This has seen me go back to liquid shampoo and conditioner and as I am yet to find a place that sells this in bulk / self-service, I’m buying the normal stuff from the supermarket.

Can she do it again? Is it possible to simultaneously finish both shampoo and conditioner?

Yes, I did do it again.

Not only have I simultaneously finished both products at the same time, I have now performed this miraculous feat at least three times.

As far as I’m concerned, that’s enough to make me an authority on the subject and proves the first one wasn’t just a fluke.

How?
It’s so obvious that you’ll be amazed.

I use the same amount of each product.

This actually sells the process a little short so allow me to expand as there are a few facets to this.

I have clear pump action containers (from my shampoo / conditioner self-filling days in HK), I pour the standard products into these. This serves a few purposes. It’s much easier on the eyes as there is so much writing and detail in the packaging of the normal products that it doesn’t make the shower a very restful place (that’s a long way of saying that I find it aesthetically pleasing); I can see exactly how much remains in each and the pump action allows me to put the exact same amount in my hand each time.

Next tip is in how to use the products and would you believe, there are some YouTube videos on this too. I clearly stumbled down the hairdressing channel abyss one night and learnt quite a lot though they didn’t actually cover the syncing of finishing products.

Anyway, according to my extensive research from the abyss, we are meant to work the shampoo into a lather on the top of our heads only. My hair is now half-way down my back at the longest point so this initially seemed a little weird as I wondered how the rest would get clean especially after my diving.

I had nothing to worry about.

After lathering it all up and massaging it into the scalp for a couple of minutes (so invigorating), rinse it out. The shampoo runs through the rest of the hair on the way out anyway.

Onto the conditioner. Take the same amount as of the shampoo (I use two pumps) and run it through about half-way down the hair to the very ends. These are the bits that need the most conditioning as the top of the head is where the oil from the scalp conditions. This is according to my abyss research and it does seem to be the case as my hair is tangle-free and soft.

Some in the abyss recommend combing it through your hair while you’re in the shower however, having curly hair, this isn’t usually a good idea unless I want to look like a lion a bit later. I use my fingers as a wide-tooth comb instead and that seems to work fine.

Wash it all out and voila.

Soft, knot-less hair and the same amount of shampoo and conditioner used.

Good luck with your own shampoo and conditioning miracle!
