Opportunity

or: Looking for alternatives

We may not be allowed to dive again until the end of April 2021. As with the predictability of most things relating to the lockdown, what’s allowed and not, and the timing of when activities will be permitted again, take this date with a grain of salt. Maybe a few grains just to be on the safe side. That’s about as close as we’re all likely to get to the ocean for a little while.

We realised this just after our lockdown supposedly ended on 31 March. It wasn’t really an ending, it was more of a change in what other businesses we would be able to spend our money in on our shopping days.

Nothing else really changed.

More places to spend money.

No activities that are good for peoples’ health and well-being.

Including diving.

This had me thinking of how much the dive centre had been allowed to open over the last 17 months (that’s from the start of January 2020 to the end of April 2021).

A total of 11 months.

Only two of those had the full complement of tourists and locals.

I’m expecting lockdowns are going to continue on and off for the foreseeable future as governments around the world work out how they are going to manage this as well as future pandemics given how interconnected the world is and the travel many of us enjoy.

This means more times for the dive centre to be closed.

This sounds terrible however I think it’s an opportunity to begin to prepare myself and what we can do to ensure money continues to come in for those times when we can’t dive.

It’s time to be practical and pragmatic.

I can’t do much about missing diving itself unless I invest in some AI program and learn how to use it. Mmmmm, now there’s a thought….

In the meantime, I’ve been working on another project. I’ve been thinking about this particular idea for a long time and now I have the time to research what’s involved and implement it.

Time is no longer an excuse. It is an opportunity.

I’ll be able to share more details about in the not too distant future.

I’m quite excited about this. I’m learning new skills and my new venture also allows me to stay connected to diving even in those times when I’m not able to dive.

Happy days!

After all, diving is life. Everything else is surface interval.
