Pink Croc flip flops

I never thought I’d own a pair, and yet, here I am.

Not just any pair either. A pair that can easily be seen from the other side of the road, the beach and perhaps even further.

Yes, they are pink. Not just any pink. They are bright pink!

I’ve never worn a shoe that was so divisive either. Everyone has an opinion. Never have my shoes been such a focal point of conversation. And now I’m actively pointing them out to people who somehow haven’t noticed I’m wearing them too – I’m embracing their conversation starter status.

They are awesome!

They were initially spotted in a store by a French couple that visits us quite regularly (we visited them on our French holiday too). Not surprisingly, it was the bright pink that caught the husband’s eye and they immediately thought of me.

And bought them.

Now, before you knock the Crocs, have you ever tried on a pair?

As one of our divers, who I suggested to try them on said, they are like walking on squishy marshmallows.

She’s right. This is the best description I’ve heard except they don’t stick to your feet in the way I imagine squished marshmallows would. They also don’t attract flys in quite the same way either.

Comfort, thy name is Crocs.

A fashion statement they certainly are. Positive or negative is for each individual to decide.

I’ve decided to bling mine up a bit because, why not? Naturally they now feature a couple of fish and a pink gem, because, again, why not?

I look down at my pink enclosed feet and smile.

I wear them to the dive centre and sometimes for grocery shopping if I’m still in my dive uniform. I wear them around my neighbourhood. And each time I look down at my feet, I can’t help but break into a big, what I’m assuming is fairly goofy-looking, grin.

If shoes can bring this level of happiness on the wearer, people should consider more carefully what they put on their feet. I can’t say I’m normally a shoe person either (as most that know me from Asia would know, I’m a handbag person) but these definitely pass the Marie Kondo test and spark joy.

They’ve sparked so much joy that I’m considering buying another pair as my house shoes.

I normally wear slippers inside and I think Crocs could be a great replacement in the warmer months (this could be due to many years living in Asia that being totally barefoot inside feels a little odd). Yes, I know Crocs are now available with a sheepskin lining. Firstly, I’m not sure I’m quite ready for an Ugg / Croc fusion, and secondly, I’ve never seen them in Mauritius. Thirdly, they don’t cover my ankles and in winter, that’s my preference.

I’m more likely to buy a pair similar to the ones I already have and just do it in different colours for our warmer months. I’ll stick to winter style slippers for the cooler ones.

While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, comfort is definitely in the Croc.

These two things may or may not be mutually exclusive – you decide.

And until you’ve tried a pair yourself, don’t knock the Croc!
